About Agatha Christie

Hello friends! I am writing to share with you about Agatha Christie’s books. Agatha Christie was a well know crime writer of novels, short stories and plays. She was born on 15 September 1890 and died in 12 January 1976. She was a British. I like her books really very much although I read only one book written by her. There’s a reason behind everything, so I shall tell you frankly that the reason why I read only one book of hers is because there are too much FRENCH in her books. French, that’s right; I couldn’t understand it so I decide to learn French as a third language. After a few French lessons, I could understand some of the words or phrases used by her. Okay, let’s get back to the topic. The reason why I like her books is because of her popularity; her books have sold up to 4 billion copies in English and in 56 (at least) other languages. If she was still living today and each book sold earns her $1, she would be a billionaire by now. And the world population is about 6,706,993,152, so, if you ask anyone on the street if he/she knows Agatha Christie, there’s 2/3 chance that the person would say Yes, or if you ask 3 people on a street, 2 of them would probably say Yes…  Another reason is because her mystery books are really very well written and the climax never fails to put you into suspense. Sometimes, when reading her book, I would feel scary too. Now, I promise to try and read more of her books and share with you about them, I also hope that you should also try reading her books as they are beneficial and improves your writing skills. All the best and I wish you a happy March holiday!

I am Back!!!

Hey Buddies!

I am glad to return home after the Sec One Camp in the Sarimbun Scouts Camp. The Sec One Camp was indeed a challenging one as we had to solve problems in many of the team-building games and in the longest activity-the Sarimbun (hope I did not spell it wrongly) Challenge. Speaking of the Sarimbun Challenge, It was really indeed a ‘fun’ one. We got to do many activities in that Challenge such as trekking the outer region of the Camp and boiling water. The trekking part was fun as many of my friends borrowed my insect repellent and sprayed on to their legs as there were attacking their legs. I did not have to do that as I changed into my track pants before the Challenge. Some of my team mates were in pain after the natural vegetation cut their legs. Once again, my track pants protected me. After trekking through the natural vegetation, we had to boil water. We swiftly filled the can (I don’t know what the name for the thing is) with a little water before lighting the leaves with a lighter. The leaves were difficult to light at first but we quickly tore some pieces of paper and ignited the paper first. After the pieces of paper began to burn, we quickly let the fire spread by positioning the paper near the leaves. Later, we put the can of water near the fire. Then, the camp leaders reminded us that we should make a rack to support the can so that it would boil faster. We quickly took some large rocks and positioned it so that the water can will be supported by the rocks. After that, we quickly put twigs and dried leaves in to the space between the can and the rocks. Next, we were back to what we did earlier, lighting pieces of paper. Lastly, we put the pieces of paper inside and slowly, the water began to boil. We were overjoyed and our Trainer gave us out grades…… Other activities continue and I was tired of course but I was also glad that the three days were not wasted. On the next day, we cleared our tents and cleaned the place and went back to school. The camp was indeed a memorable one as I remembered about all those activities and those Student leaders……

p.s. I know what that can is called. It’s a Mess Tin!

OK, Let’s Talk about Camping

Hello guys! I am pretty really very excited about the camp on 11-13 March 2009. This is the second time that I am going for a camp with my School. Why do I like camping? Umm… I think it is because there are a lot of fun activities for us to enjoy in the camp and we will create a better sense of bonding among our schoolmates. Some of you may not like camping as you are allergic to the insects in the campsite and the people from your ‘enemy’ consortiums. Don’t be afraid. Actually, this is a chance to showcase your talent in camping and a way to make your enemies (insects and other guys) allergic to you and stay as far as possible from you. Ok, let’s not talk about all those ‘camping’ stuff. Now, I will tell you how I prepared for the camp yesterday. And, if you think it’s boring, maybe you should consider stop reading now. Yesterday, I went to the nearby ‘shopping centre’ IMM and I bought many stuff for camping purpose. Those stuff include things such as the probably the most important things such as the insect repellent (I have one, but the expiry date was 12 March 1999) and the 1.5 l so-called ‘water bottle’ which is just mineral water which totalled up to about S$14.00. Later, I also bought the Banana Boat Kids sun-block lotion with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 30 which costs me about 12 dollars. After that, I went on to buy a full set of Cutlery and Utensils as my family and I are the so-called Pure-Oriental family whom only uses chopsticks and a bowl for eating. Lastly, my parents bought me a cheap track pants which costs about 9 dollars. Ok, I have already said what I wanted to say, now, please help me to improve by giving me comments. All comments are invaluable and greatly appreciated by me. Once again, thank you!

What Exactly a Quality Blog Post is?

Now, let’s talk about quality Blog posts. Many of you may wonder what exactly is a quality blog post? Don’t ask me, I don’t know too. Yesterday, my Language Arts(English for short) teacher, Ms Lim, told us in the school computer lab that we need to write at least 5 quality posts to get at most 3 ace points. Ace points are important can i really like to get it. But, the problem is that I did not know what is a quality Blog post. Instinctively, i asked her how do we write a quality Blog post and what components does it consists of. We were told that we should read Mr Spencer’s (sorry, I do not know how to spell his name) Blog for references. I did not know the URL for his Blog and I had no choice but to continue my Blog post without the references. Luckily, I managed to write longer than I expected. After coming back after the ‘half-day’ at school, I quickly searched for ‘Quality Blog posts’ in Google but to no avail. Now, I think that I have already figured what is a quality Blog post. There are two elements in a quality Blog post and the most important element in a quality Blog post is that the writer has patience and he/she would be able to write a long post with content, grammar and vocabulary. A quality Blog post also has to be reviewed many times and the writer should correct also grammar mistakes. A short-cut for lazy people just like me is to use the Microsoft Word 2007 Edition (the 2003 version does not include the word ‘Blog’). The writer must also have a vast command of vocabulary to be able to describe the different actions and reactions of different characters. The writer must also be humorous and ‘entertain’ the reader with jokes in the long passage. The second element is that the Blogger should have a font that is suitable for reader that is not too BIG or too small. The colour of the background should be light and the words are to be in dark colours. This will make the post to be much more easily read and the eyes of the reader will not be damaged. With that, I shall end my post and feel free to comment on my post. Thank you for you kind attention and Goodbye!

My Reading Habits

Before I Came to Hwa Chong, I liked to read History books and Non-fiction books. I enjoy reading them because I always have an urge to know more about the past and about the technology we have today. Apart from reading books from the library, i would try to borrow books from my friends. The Books that i like to read include Horrible Histories, written by Terry Deary and other Books which tells me a lot of facts about the past and present Technologies and how do Humans construct Buildings and etc. The books on Horrible Histories title are so funny and ‘interesting’. Actually, more of the effects came from the drawings which were drawn by another person… From books which showcase the past and present technologies, i know that creating roads is a difficult task requiring patience and  calculations. We have to First put layers of other materials before laying the cement; or else it will be a disaster as the newly built road will be easily destroyed by the weather. After Graduating to Seconday School, i have lesser time to read books. Hwa Chong has a reading programme from Monday to Wednesday which provides us with reading materials such as magazines etc. For Sec 1s, we are provided with newspapers to read at the reading period in the morning. The newspapers are so interesting thet i will concentrate on reading it until reading period ends. The newspapers also provide us with current affairs happening all over the world. For the future, i wish that we will get to read some magazines such as TIME, Readers’ Digest etc… i have read those magazines in the National Library before and it is very informative and interesting, especially the Readers’ Digest. The Readers’ Digest magazine has many latest news from the world including reporst on significant events in the past and present…

Thank you for your kind attention!
